How payment works
The toll plaza sits on the mainland side before the first span. Lanes accept the LeeWay transponder, and attended or automated lanes handle other payment. Rental cars often carry a transponder — check with your rental company, because their per-toll administrative fee can exceed the toll itself.
There is no way onto Sanibel or Captiva that avoids the toll. Captiva has no separate charge; the Blind Pass bridge between Sanibel and Captiva is free.
Budgeting for a Sanibel trip
For a week-long stay off-island with three Sanibel day trips, expect $18 in tolls. Add beach parking on the island, which runs several dollars per hour at every public lot, and a Sanibel beach day realistically costs $20–30 in access fees before you buy anything.
